Today was our first free day with the host families. When Audrey and I woke up we made toast, our host family can home with heaps of fresh food from the market they were at and then cooked us even more food. We have been eating so much food on this trip. Our host brothers took us out to walk around town, but because it was after noon all the shops were mainly closed. It was still nice to walk on the sea wall and see what the town is like in the day. We got back and got ready for our farewell dinner at the University. It was a beautiful ceremony. They had food for us and our families and then some of the students preformed traditional songs and dances of Fiji. I think it is very interesting that in this culture the men are the ones who dance like crazy and the women mainly look like hula dancers and don’t move much. They also had some Indian dances for the Indian population in Fiji. The last song that they called all the families on stage to sing to us was the Farewell song of Fiji. All people are required to learn it and seeing everyone I knew including the teachers and artists on stage made me realize that I would be leaving them soon. It was a really special way to end the evening. Afterwards a group of us went out for the night and I met this girl named Hosanna and her friends. She is part American part Fijian and spends her time in both countries. She was very nice and I danced with her and her friends for the night. I danced so much that night I think I danced off the whole week’s worth of eating!
