Today was our Rainforest Day. We first set off an hour north and arrive at a wildlife zoo where we stayed for an hour and were able to pet kangaroos and wallabies. Next we went up on a tour through an aboriginal's grounds of the Rainforest on a beautiful freshwater river. Then we went to eat lunch at this hostel that was set in the rainforest but on the beach. Our tour guide said this was the only place that you could be in two wildlife preserves at once: one foot in the reef and one foot in the rainforest. We were able to walk on the beach for a while and I wish I was able to stay longer and swim because the water was super clear and green, the sand soft and white and the temperature around 25C! Then we were off on the long journey back home to stop at a tour of this salt water river where we would look for crocs. We saw a large one and two babies. Our guide told us how this one island we went around was called Pig Island because all the wild pigs that hide in the sugar cane come out across the river to this island when the sugar cane is harvested and when they cross the crocs have a good meal. Once back we set off toward the hostel.
Later that night, Danielle and I freshened up and walked around the city. We went into the night Markets (a flee market at night) and ate croc and kanga. I had my first kanga a week before and even this was good (many say it isn't good). And the croc had a texture like chicken breasts but ended up with a fishy taste. Then we got some gelato and headed back to our hostel for another early night of sleep.
