September 24th: Leaving for Melbourne

(Side note on the trip’s photos and entries: because I was unable to log everything that happened every day I am trying to go off my memory. I may remember things later on that I will put in later. I also know there are some photos that I do not have on my camera that I will be posting in later on. So check back later if you are still interested in seeing more).

Today I woke up early to make sure all my ducks were in order. I cleaned my room and did laundry that I knew needed to dry while we were gone. We packed sandwiches and got all our clothes together and left on a bus for the city. Once in the city we got onto a train but made sure to get off of it right before it takes you to the airport because that ticket would’ve cost a fortune. So we decided to walk a couple blocks into the airport. It was such a nice day out. All the flowers look like they are about to bloom, too bad we will miss that. We went through check-in and then security. Anthony had a good laugh when he was grabbing his backpack out of the scanner and I was jamming my camera bag, ipod and other metallic objects back into my backpack. He was confused why I had done such a thing. I told him how you have to take all your electronics and metals out of your bag and he told me I’m not in America anymore: flying is a lot more lax. We chilled in the airport and went through some shops and ate dinner and some Krispy Cream Donuts (first time I’ve had those).
Once at Melbourne Airport we took a shuttle into the city where we were able to catch a tram that lead us a few blocks from our hostel. We had to ask a kid which tram we should take and he was getting on our tram with us. He had originally sat in a different spot but then came over to tell us where to get off and how to get to our hostel. He was very nice and could tell we were very lost and tired. We rushed off the tram and then right before it left the same kid yelled to us because Anthony had forgotten his jacket and he threw it off for us. This kid was one of the nicest strangers I’ve seen and Anthony and I agreed our luck would be better for the rest of the trip if we paid-it-forward with the next chance we got.
We arrived at the hostel and checked in. Our room had a little sink but there were shared men’s and women’s bathrooms in the hallway. I took a shower but had forgot that not everywhere would kindly supply soap…Once settled in, we both got ready for bed and chilled in the room and went to bed early for an early wake up of crunching in all of Melbourne the next morning.
